About Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya is the country's namesake giant: a heavily eroded, ancient volcano whose three highest spires — Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana — pierce 5,000m. Technical climbers chase Batian and Nelion, but trekkers can walk to Point Lenana (4,985m) and stand above the cloud sea at sunrise. Tai Trails has run Mount Kenya routes since 2017 and we know every hut, every stream crossing, and every shortcut down.

Trail highlights

  • Sunrise on Point Lenana (4,985 m)
  • Mackinder Valley and the Teleki tarns
  • Senecio and lobelia giant plant zones
  • Chogoria's Lake Michaelson amphitheatre
  • Bandas, tarns and bog crossings of the Sirimon route
